This Yoga Teacher Training program is meticulously designed by Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (SVYASA), a premier Yoga University with over 50 years of yoga research and expertise.
The YICC (Yoga Instructor Certification Course) is a foundational certification offered by SVYASA-USA for beginners who wish to learn, teach, and deeply understand the principles of yoga. This program is equivalent to or exceeds the requirements of a 200-hour Teacher Training Program and is registered with Yoga Alliance.
In this training, participants receive systematic guidance in both the practices and philosophy of yoga. The course integrates various aspects of yoga, including Asanas (postures), Pranayama (breathing techniques), Kriyas (cleansing techniques), Meditation, Vedic Chanting, and the essence of yogic literature and philosophy into a comprehensive and holistic curriculum.
This course goes beyond teaching techniques—it’s a transformational journey that fosters self-awareness and personal development, empowering learners to not only teach yoga effectively but also embark on their own path of growth and mindfulness.

Part 1 – Theory
- Understanding Yoga: Concept, definitions, and streams of yoga
- Yoga: Need of the hour & its basis
- Theory of Yogic practices: Asanas, Pranayama, Kriyas, and Meditation
- Applications of Yoga
- Introduction to Yoga Therapy (IAYT)
- Stress management & Yogic relaxation techniques
- Yoga Diet & mindful eating
- Teaching Techniques: 8-Step Method
- Basic Anatomy & Physiology applied to yoga
- Ethics for yoga teachers
- Vedic Chanting
- Sanskrit names of Asanas
- Life and teachings of spiritual masters
- Global yoga research
- Creating a class module
Part 2 – Yoga Practices
- Mastery of foundational 60-70 yoga postures and their proper alignment
- Loosening and stretching practices
- Fundamental yogic breathing techniques (Pranayama)
- Meditation practices
- Kriyas: Cleansing techniques for nostrils, stomach, and Trataka for the eyes
- Mudras and Bandhas
- Safe techniques, tools, and tips for practicing asanas
- Teaching beginners and offering posture variations
Part 3 – Internship
- Completion of 40 teaching hours under the guidance of a certified yoga instructor
- Flexible timeline: Complete in 1 to 9 months based on your commitment
- Access to daily yoga classes across various VYASA locations for teaching practice
- Upon successful completion of teaching hours, students receive their certificate acknowledged by VYASA
Part 4 – Report on a Yoga Topic
- Students must prepare a report on a yoga-related topic (e.g., Yoga for Children, Yoga for Health, or Yoga and Exercise).
- Written and practical exams are mandatory for certification.
